New Order at Supersonic Japan

Since our first visit in 1985 some things have changed, but our fascination for Japan, and the warm reception we receive remains the same. This is our 5th visit and we have enjoyed every one. This trip took us to Osaka and Tokyo and both ere great shows.

In Osaka a wild storm started just as our Nozomi train pulled into the station. From our hotel rooms we could see the rain pouring down and thunder and lightning going off all around. At the festival site the stage was inundated and the festival pyro was set off by lightning. The power had to be shut down on site for 2 hours and this was in the middle of the days events. So when things resumed everything had to be rescheduled and our 90 minute set had to be cut down to 40. So we send our apologies to the Osaka crowd for the short set and can't wait to get back to play longer.

Sunday night was the Tokyo show and everything went to plan. In fact it was a perfect show with the crowd loving every minute. It's been 7 years since our last Tokyo show and Bernard promised the audience they wouldn't have to wait that long for us to return next time. So bring it on!

A big thank you to our friends at Warners, Rie and Shiho and also Emi and Makiko at Creativeman for your hard work that made our visit so enjoyable.

First Time in Korea for New Order

New Order played in Seoul on Wedneday 15th August. This was our first time in Korea and we didn't know quite what to expect. As we drove in through the terrible traffic from the airport, through miles of austerely numbered tower blocks along the Han river we could only wonder what lay ahead. What we found was that we have a passionate following there and we were loudly and warmly received. This year's touring has been a real eye opener for us. To travel half way around the world and find so many people who love our music is most gratifying.

London Hyde Park Olympic Closing Concert

In typical New Order style we approached this concert with a certain degree of trepidation. While the media, and indeed friends from around the world congratulated us and sent messages of pride in our contribution to this great event, we worried that it might be too big. That the huge crowd of 65,000 might be indifferent to us. That it would rain and the whole thing would be wash out. These, and other negative thoughts were rattling around the camp in the run up to this concert. But dear reader we were so wrong. Olympic fever had taken hold of the UK population and the atmosphere in the park that Sunday afternoon was of a great party. We were so well received that we were left thinking how could we have doubted ourselves, and when will we see such a large crowd singing along to Love Will Tear Us Apart and waiving Union Jack flags again?

New Order at Lokerse Festival, Belgium

On a beautiful summer evening Friday 10th August New Order played the fantastic Lokerse Festival to tremendous response from the Belgian crowd. For the band it was a great end to a day spent exploring the local medieval town of Ghent and it's medieval Graslei harbour (pictured above). The only slight spoiler a technical hitch with the video projection hardware which resulted in the right hand side of the stage videos being cropped. If you saw "New Ord" or "58" you know what I'm talking about!

New Order at Slottsfjell Festival, Norway

We had the great pleasure to be invited to play Slottsjfell festival on Saturday 21st July. Tonsberg is in the ancient heartland of Norway, indeed the festival site itself is inside a huge natural Viking fortress that was besieged in the Norwegian civil wars more than 800 years ago. The surrounding landscape has many large burial mounds, and from one was unearthed a well preserved Viking long boat, now in the museum in Oslo, a brilliant lifesize replica of which was moored on the jetty outside the Quality Hotel.
